Does anyone know how to add a runway that will match the local terrain? I've selected a location and created a runway with AFCAD, but the location is not even. I would prefer to match the runway with the terrain instead of flattening the terrain. Any help would be greatly appreciated Next, I'll be trying to figure out how to apply an alternate texture to the runway surface (any hints on this would be great too ). -Greg

I'm still learning - I put an AFCAD out on our Yahoo site for Merrill that adds parking slots, but that's about it, I'm afraid.

You have to "smooth" the terrain, it does not need to be flatened .. at least I don't think it does anyway ..
The problem I've run into is that the texture will dissapear below the surface area if its not flattened ..
Mind you the runway can slope I think .. though I've not tried that ..
I was using FSSC to create the one runway I made .. and it allowed you to provide different eleveation hights for each corner ..
Now if you want arched, or uneve runways .. yer gonna need a new flight sim .. I dunna think MSFS supports that ..
That was a new feature just added to X-Plane, but its really only apparnet on takeoff, and roll out ..

Actually, back in the days of the other VA that we used to have, Don Moser made one of our bases that had a dirt runway with a big dip in the middle of it, so contoured runways is possible.

Well, this is what I've learned... You can put a runway on the existing terrain by placing your AFCAD file below the surface (0 MSL) and simply painting one on the terrain (I think this is what was done for Yankee Creek 2). Also, you will need to "exclude" the area so autogen scenery does not show up. I have been playing with gmax and RWY12 and I'm slowly learning the ropes. So far, the hardest part has been finding suitable textures I could not figure out how to texture or paint terrain, so I just did a "flatten" and it's hardly noticable. I also added a few items to support the home building effort. So the virtual home project is underway ;D ;D ;D The closest AAS base is Kenai. I've selected a location across the Cook Inlet just outside Lake Clark National Park about 63nm out on the 283 radial of the Kenai VOR. It's sitting right about 3200 ft, and it's generally pretty breezy so I'll be getting pretty proficient on my crosswind landings As soon as I can figure out how to package it up, I'll post a charter with a link to the scenery and I'll be requesting some supply runs so the construstion can get underway. I'll try to post a pic or two in the next day or so. -Greg Here's some shots... And the first order of business will be stockpiling some firewood...
