Howdy all, Just found out that GMAX is toast... sad news for us scenery developers. As of Oct 6th, Discrete (owners of GMAX) have officially discontinued the product. It's still available on www.turbosquid.com for a very limited time (1 Nov). Program requires a regristration key in order to work. The bad part about this is that if you ever have to reinstall GMAX, you're kinda SOL ("Significantly Out of Luck"... only the word wasn't "Significantly") GMAX is (was) a free 3D modelling tool frequently used to create aircraft and scenery objects for FS2004. Although I've done all my modelling in a program called trueSpace ( www.caligari.com ) I've still relied on GMAX for texture mapping, animation, and export to the .mdl format (ultimately gets compiled into BGL files). Also, trueSpace isn't free. It's cheaper than the $3500 price tag of 3DMax but still out of range for the casual modeller. This is sad news for the community as a whole, since it universally impacts the ability for new developers to get started. If you have any intention of developing scenery or airplanes for FS2004, you might want to rush over to turbosquid and get your copy pronto! Prof K.

Terrible news indeed!!! I was just getting the hang of it too... There must be something or some way to allow for a reinstall. Hmmm...
