Flying in support of Ramy Brooks (#15) The talk on the radio on the way to Anchorage on Friday was Paul Gebhardt's dicey move to press on past the Iditarod CP. Gutsy move - but I didn't think his lead would last, as he hadn't even taken his 24. By today, things were looking a lot clearer when Scott brought me back. Sorlie was in front, followed closely by Brooks. It was then that I realized both guys were in it to the finish. And I needed to be there for Ramy Brooks! I took the time to check all the plugs and fittings to make sure everything was in order; at 1400 AST, I lifted off from the Iditarod CP and made the turn to Unalakleet (MANY THANKS FRANK for doing the double duty temporarily - and sorry to see that Charlie scratched). After about an hour - through a lot of scattered clouds - I finally made out Unalakleet and got set up to land on runway 14... As I taxied to the end of the active, I could see the activity at the Checkpoint - the media tent most of all... I shut down the engines at 1506 and waited on Ramy to arrive - the Healy, Alaska native against the best that Team Norway represents...too close to call even this late in the race.
