Day 10
Nome - AWIDITARODK6,20060314,AAS032,093
Final flight of Iditarod 2006.
I was Proud to fly it for Aurora Air Service. Last year I flew it for Timberwolf. Next year I'll fly it for LAZ.
Aliy and team made it all the way and passed under the knurled arch in Nome at 2:36 in the afternoon today in 14th position.
During the race she has been in 47th place and 2nd place but mostly in the top 10. She and her dogs made this year, to me, the best Iditarod since I began watching in 2004.
Congratulations Aliy, dogs, and you entire support team for a thrilling race. Thanks Kaz for the outstanding updates. Made me feel like like I was somehow a part of the team.
Joao.
Thanks for continuing the tradition. The AW Iditarod is among the very best FS has to offer.
Re slip: As Simon is known to say from time to time.....Good On Ya!
To ALL participating Iditarod 2006 pilots. Thanks for the great stories and pics. You all make it feel like something that is bigger than all of us and I feel a pride to be a part of your IAF.
Flew this final flight after Aliy and Team had already made Nome.
Flew from Golovin to White Mountian checkpoint to pick up the last dog Aliy dropped from her team and she passed the finish line, just a few hours later than her mates.
I still am awed by the capabilities of the O-2. we are on the cruise to Safety.
Didnt need to but landed at Safety. It is the toughtest to land at because it is ice. The O-2 used just under the total 1000' but she beat that to.
Out of Safety on the final leg to the arch then end game at Nome
Aliys last dropped dog did cross the Finish Line.....I was there!.....There is dog nose smears on the starboard window left as she stared and barked as we passed.
Done at Nome.
I hope Frank had the AAS crew keep coffee on the stove, Geez it's cold up here.
