G'day Guys!
Ok I have caught up with Hans.
He has dropped two dogs here at McGrath, so no worries there.
Well the fight today was full of challenges.
The wind on departure from 8KA was over 40 knots.
Actually I blame the wind for a bad nights fishing.
You see every time I threw a stick of dynamite the little boat I was in would get bumped by the wind to tell the truth I dam nearly dropped a stick in the boat anyway the result bugger all fish!
We had few upset greenies! ... Now where's the chainsaw!
Here I am trying to hover in 40 knot gusts!
Once we got above the pea soup the flying became easier.
But the WX did clear up and with wind did finally drop to below a screaming gale!
It was cool to look below and see the dogs and sleds tracking across the Alaskan wilderness.
After a short climb and a close inspection of this particular mountain ( see near tail) .... Pilot error .... NEVER!
I am sure I saw gold in dem hills! ;D
OK well after nearly splattering myself I gained my composure I and flew on. ...... DO NOT tell Frank I nearly totaled one of his aircraft .... I will be in trouble AGAIN! ;D
The Wild Man head on!
The mountains terrain flattened out to flat lands and trees .... Hey look if you fly low enough you can scare the possums!
Finally and I mean finally these choppers don't have auto pilot we have to fly manually all the way, McGrath came into view
Now I am going to demonstrate why helicopters are good fixed wing bad!
Landing Wild Man style.
1 Over shoot airport going like the clappers (Aussie term for bloody fast)
2 Don't use your radio, unless is for PAN PAN or MAYDAY
3 Chuck a hard right and line up ya resting spot ( resting spot cos it may well be your final resting spot)
See!
4 Look left .... Look right ..... Look left again!
5 Barrel straight on in and land like a feather ( most of the time)
Who need runways, taxiways, approach plates, pilots license!
OK shut down after about 50 minutes of flying.
DAM!
Just had a radio call Hans has dropped two dogs at Takotna, fair dinkum I am going wear these rotor blades out!
Till next report
Cheers
