The sectional for Ketchikan recommends specific routes when using the airspace around the international airport. There is a high volume of small plane traffic intermixed with the big jets, and no control tower. Who'd a thunk a 737 landing at an international airport had to use unicom? Worse yet the airport is situated in a valley with rising terrain on either side; an obstacle to maneuvering when close to the airport. Scary! Ah well, glad I don't intend to fly there anytime soon! ;D Anyway the FAA published this pamphlet that shows the specific routes they would prefer be used. Its interesting if your into that sorta thing. It also shows a few of the common air-tour routes flown in the area. www.cgrmtnhelos.com/Downloads/Ketchikan.pdf

I used to do a lot of flights in and out of there with BFU. I gradually moved on up towards Juneau, then my hardware situation went to...well you know where, and I still haven't been able to get flying again.
